Ousted Venezuelan Leader Maduro And Wife Taken To New York Court To Face Drug-Trafficking Related Charges

Ousted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, are set to make their first appearance in a New York federal court to face drug-trafficking charges. The couple was captured in Venezuela on Saturday by U.S. forces following orders from President Donald Trump.

According to Manhattan U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton, the prosecution team is confident in the case, stating that they are “completely comfortable with this prosecution.”

The appearance comes just two days after their dramatic capture in Venezuela. Since being taken into custody, Maduro and Flores have been held in U.S. custody pending court proceedings.
