Farmer Loses Hand After Machete Attack by Herdsman in Adamawa

A farmer, Hammasumo Ali, has lost his left hand after he was allegedly attacked with a machete by a herdsman in Toungo Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The incident occurred in the Nyashika area of Gumti Ward when Ali reportedly attempted to stop the herdsman from allowing his cattle to graze on his farmland.

According to a statement by the Secretary of Information, Toungo Local Government Area, Daniel Pogu Toungo, the disagreement escalated into a confrontation before the herdsman allegedly attacked the farmer with a machete.

Ali sustained severe injuries in the attack and eventually lost his left hand. He is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

The Chairman of Toungo LGA, Hajiya Hauwa Guruja, visited the injured farmer at the hospital and sympathised with him over the incident.

Guruja appealed to residents to maintain peace and respect one another’s rights, urging them to resolve disputes through dialogue rather than violence.

The latest incident has renewed concerns over clashes arising from disputes between farmers and herders in parts of the country.
