Gunmen Abduct Six Worshippers During Church Service In Ondo

Unknown Gunmen have abducted six worshippers at the Celestial Church of Christ in Uso, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, in a fresh wave of insecurity rocking the state.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday while members were holding a church service. According to the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the incident happened at about 12:50 a.m. on February 25.

Jimoh, who confirmed the development in a statement, said the assailants whisked the victims away to an unknown destination.

“Upon receiving the report, operatives of the Command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, immediately mobilised to the scene and commenced coordinated rescue operations,” he said.

The police added that sustained joint efforts have led to the successful rescue of one of the abducted worshippers, while operations are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims.

The abduction comes barely four days after gunmen kidnapped a couple at Ilu-Abo in Akure North LGA, heightening concerns over rising attacks in parts of the state.
