A lawmaker representing Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji federal constituency of Zamfara State, Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji, has narrated a harrowing experience where bandits allegedly fed newborn twins to dogs.
Jaji, who previously chaired the House Committee on National Security and Intelligence, stated this while speaking to journalists.
According to Jaji, the victim was abducted from a community in Zamfara while pregnant.
He noted that after she delivered twin babies while in captivity, the bandits threw the newborns to dogs, which ate them, according to Vanguard.
“A pregnant woman was abducted. She gave birth to twins after getting back to twins while she was in captivity. Then the leader of the bandit took the twins. Then he threw them to his dog. The dog ate the twins one by one, where are we?
“This is something that we need to rise to the occasion. We need to speak to ourselves. I said earlier, whether it is micro or micro-operation, so certainly something must be done.
“These are not just stories. These are the everyday realities of our people. Our people are no longer safe, they cannot farm, they cannot trade, and many are internally displaced, unrecognized by both the state and federal governments,” he said.
In another instance, he told a story of how an epileptic boy was killed by bandits because he fell during a seizure.
“The bandit demanded the boy be brought to him to be executed. The father, out of desperation, begged his son to surrender to save the rest of the family. The boy agreed and was shot dead,” he was quoted as saying by Daily Trust.
He urged the federal government to do more in tackling the rising insecurity in Zamfara, which has crippled governance in many parts of the state.
He lamented that President Bola Tinubu’s administration was failing in its promise to secure lives and property in the country.
“Now, we are failing those who believed in us. Our people can’t access their farms. Their economy has collapsed. We have many internally displaced persons (IDPs) who are not even recognised by the federal or state governments,” he said.
Zamfara State has been hit by different waves of insecurity, leading to kidnappings, deaths, and the destruction of farms and property.
For instance, in April, SaharaReporters reported that 20 persons were reportedly killed in Gobirawa Chali in Maru Local Government Area of the state by rampaging bandits.
According to a statement by Amnesty International, the armed gunmen went on a house-to-house killing spree.
It said, “On 24 April 2025, around mid-day, gunmen invaded Gobirawa Chali of Dan Gulbi district, Maru LGA of Zamfara State, and killed over 20 people. Dozens were severely injured. The gunmen, who arrived at the village on dozens of motorcycles, went on a house-to-house killing spree.
“Initially, bodies of 14 people were recovered. Later, more bodies were found inside homes and in a mosque. Many people are missing since the attack. Because of frequent attacks, people of the area require armed security escorts at all times to travel in and out of the area.
“The gunmen’s first target was a gold-mining site where they initially killed 14 people. The people of Dan Gulbi district have been repeatedly attacked by gunmen and continue to live perpetually in fear of a potential attack.”
Promises of halting the attacks have failed, with unrelenting assaults by the rampaging bandits.
