Katsina Governor Radda Bans Fuel Sales in Jerrycans, Shuts POS Centres to Tackle Insecurity

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has announced a series of stringent measures aimed at curbing insecurity and disrupting the operations of bandits across the state.

The governor unveiled the new directives through an Executive Order issued following an emergency security meeting attended by security agencies, traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders.

A key provision of the order is the immediate statewide ban on the sale, purchase, transportation and storage of petroleum products in jerrycans. According to Governor Radda, the measure is designed to prevent fuel supplies from reaching criminal groups operating from forests and remote hideouts.

The governor explained that intelligence reports had indicated that easy access to fuel was enabling bandits to sustain their activities and maintain mobility in difficult-to-reach areas.

In another major move, the state government ordered the immediate closure of all Point of Sale (POS) outlets and commercial phone-charging centres in Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas.

Governor Radda said security assessments revealed that some of these facilities were allegedly being exploited by criminal networks to facilitate communication, financial transactions and other activities linked to insecurity.

The Executive Order also imposed a total ban on the use of motorcycles in Matazu and Musawa LGAs. The restriction is intended to limit the movement of bandits and kidnappers, who frequently rely on motorcycles to launch attacks and escape from security operatives.

The latest measures underscore the state government’s determination to restore peace and protect communities that have endured repeated attacks and growing security challenges in recent years.

Residents in the affected areas are expected to comply fully with the directives as security agencies intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks and improve safety across the state.
