My Rift With Kcee Affected My Career – Singer Harrysong

Popular Nigerian singer Harrison Okiri, also known as Harrysong, has revealed how his protracted feud with former record label boss Kcee impacted his career and creative output for years.

In a recent interview on Jusmen FM, Harrysong reflected on the conflict, which began a decade ago.

The singer left Five Star Music — owned by Emeka Okonkwo, a businessman who happens to be Kcee’s brother — in 2016.

Harrysong said he refused to renew his contract because of a need to “grow” in the music industry.

Five Star Music, however, accused the singer of breaching his 3-year contract. The label said he was meant to release three albums, but he never came through on his end of the agreement.

In 2023, Harrysong accused the label of withholding royalties, unfair treatment, and stifling his artistry, claiming he was the writer behind several of the label’s hit songs.

He also alleged that he was tormented, attacked, and abused for seeking personal growth while at Five Star Music.

Kcee and the company denied the allegations, sparking a public back-and-forth that dragged on for years.

“The beef with Kcee used to distract me—it affected the music,” Harrysong admitted during the interview.

“Instead of recording, I’d be thinking about how to reply to Kcee, how to keep fighting. It really affected my creativity.”

Harrysong also revealed that he has finally settled his differences with Kcee and Five Star Music. He added that he has learned to manage controversies without letting them distract him from his musical focus
