Nigeria Needs Leaders Devoted to Public Service, Tinubu Says

President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerian leaders and citizens to put the public good ahead of personal interests, stressing the need for selfless leadership in the country’s development.

Tinubu made the call at St Monica Cathedral of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN), Jimeta, Yola, during a thanksgiving service to mark the 70th birthday of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Dr Boss Mustapha.

The President, represented by the current SGF, Senator George Akume, said public service should be driven by a genuine commitment to the common good rather than personal advancement.

According to him, Nigeria needs leaders who are guided by values that go beyond ambition, wealth or individual interests.

“Today is first and foremost a day for thanksgiving. We gathered not only to celebrate a passage of seven decades, but to celebrate the faithfulness of God, who has preserved and sustained Boss Mustapha through the various seasons of life,” Tinubu said.

The President described Mustapha’s 70th birthday as an opportunity to reflect on a life of service, while calling on Nigerians to embrace values that promote the collective interest.

“Nigeria needs men and women who value what transcends personal interest, but rather a devotion to public service,” he added.

Tinubu’s message comes amid continued calls for greater accountability and responsible leadership in the country, with public officials expected to place the welfare of citizens at the centre of their decisions.
