Pay Us ₦100m Or Face The Consequences— Bandits Tell Kebbi State Residents

Bandits in Kebbi South have demanded N100 million from Utouno community in Ngaski LGA, threatening to attack if the demand is not met. The warning was sent via a letter addressed to community leaders, referencing a previous deadly attack on Woro community in Kwara State as a warning.

Residents are living in fear, with some already relocating to safer areas. Abbas Alkali, a local resident, said, “Some people have already left, but those of us who have nowhere to go remain praying for our safety.” Community leader Malam Ibrahim Bello appealed to the government to deploy soldiers immediately.

The Kebbi State Government confirmed that security personnel, including air surveillance, have been deployed to protect Utouno. Ahmed Idris, the governor’s spokesman, said the state is taking the threat seriously and acting proactively.

The Lakurawa group has been linked to recent attacks in Kebbi and neighboring Sokoto State, killing dozens, abducting ‘kresidents, and rustling livestock. Last week, eight communities in Arewa LGA were attacked, leaving over 30 dead. Security experts believe the latest threat is a show of force, despite heavy losses last year when joint forces killed over 80 bandits. Police have warned residents, especially herders, to avoid risky night movements of cattle.

Residents remain on high alert, fearing the bandits may strike at any time.
